Why your support matters
Rising Futures is a community-based nonprofit committed to providing safe, stable, and supportive transitional housing for recently released individuals reentering society from the California prison system. We recognize the challenges that come with reentry—housing insecurity, limited employment opportunities, and stigma—and aim to bridge these gaps by offering not only housing but also education, vocational training, and life-skills development.
Addressing a critical need
San Diego County, like much of California, faces a critical shortage of affordable housing, in particular for individuals returning home from incarceration. Each year, thousands of men and women are released from state prisons and local jails, often with little more than the clothes they are wearing, minimal financial resources, and limited support networks. According to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, nearly 50% of individuals released return to prison within three years, with unstable housing being one of the most significant predictors of recidivism. Insecure housing or homelessness immediately upon release places individuals at heightened risk of returning to criminalized survival behaviors, relapses, and re-incarceration.
Measurable impact you will create
Rising Futures is committed to demonstrating measurable outcomes that reflect both individual transformation and community benefit. Impact measurement is built into our program design and focuses on housing stability, education, employment, and reduced recidivism. Key outcomes include: percentage of residents successfully housed throughout their stay and transitioning into permanent housing; number and percentage of residents who enroll in GED, college, or vocational programs and secure employment; average income gains for employed residents; and a significant reduction in recidivism rates, with residents remaining arrest- and conviction-free during program participation and one year post-program.
